  • Interesting article from the previous poster, and I do recall going through an "always sleeping" phase as a teen.

  • Just as newborns sleep so much because they are growing, same with teen, not only are they growing physically, but their bodies are changing in so many ways.

  • because they know when they are sleeping there is less chance that you will kill them

  • mamak you have the best answer! Way better than mine.
I was going to say because their brains and bodies demand extra sleep during this stage. I slept alot as a teen too. Now I can get by with 5 hours.I also agree with admckenzie. Love the humor.

  • LOL at mamak... yeah teens actually require 9.5 hrs a day- all of the development they and their bodies and minds are going through...and their internal clocks are often set to sleep from midnight to 10 or so AM- so school should really start later for them to be properly functional...

  • Because they are allowed to be lazy? My teens are in bed at 10p every single night including weekends and summer and are up at 6a every single day. There are no naps and no sleeping the day away here.

  • anonymous-
you sound like a drill Sgt. i am glad you aren't my mom i am 52 and still like my naps this is with going to bed early and sleep good all night. It has nothing to do with being lazy and every thing to do with growing. They dodn't stop growing just because they are teens. my brother grew 6 inches in one year at age 15
