If so, you take their certification courses, and participate in their webcasts, and networking seminars, and they add your business name and/or moniker (company name) to a national/international roster, which helps to get your business "out there" for anyone in need of your skills. You learn different ways of marketing yourself, and the IVAA certification lends more credibility.
I became certified a few years ago as a SAHM, and managed to get a decent amount of business--mostly from small businesses and self-employed contractors. Basic office needs, to business proposals, and write ups. I also have my Notary Public certification as well.
