My friends are getting married but haven't registered, what do I get them?

They didn't register because they have lived together for 3 years and already have pretty much everything.... well, at least that's what they think. They have a huge house with the typical furniture (minus the dining room table) But their house is bare!! No pictures, wall sconces, candles, decorative furniture. Very nice place but....empty. I guess what I'm asking is, should I just get them a gift card to Bed, Bath and Beyond or something? I wouldn't want to buy them something that they don't even end up liking.

  • They may be happy with a simple space, so don't impose your decorating ideas on them.
If you want to get them something more personal than a gift card, make them a breakfast-in-bed kit. this can be as simple or elaborate as your budget will allow: bed tray, two plates, two cups and saucers, two champagne flutes, two sets of flatware, two cloth napkins, a bottle of champagne, coffee, pancake mix, heart shaped egg/pancake molds, etc.

  • Yeah, gift cards are always the very safest bet. And they might keep their house bare like that because... they like it? It seems that they kind of must if they've been living together for 3 years. God knows my husband and I accumulate so much crap over the course of 6 months, that when we moved in October... we were amazed.
Anyway! Gift cards are always the best.
However, if you're close to them, and know what kind of personality they both hold, their sense of humor or whatnot, interests, hobby they have together, etc... you could always play up on that. :]

  • A gift card would be nice but I would get them maybe a photo album or a nice picture frame to put their new wedding photo in it. Same happened with my uncle so my mom just got them a limo for the day, you could always do that. Really I would ask them what they could use or what they need or want.

  • Well, they moved into the new house a year ago and she made a rule that nothing from the old house came to the new one (well, exept for the kids furniture, clothes, dishes, etc. but everything else has been new) .... he had lived in the other house for 9 years and it wasn't a mess or cluttered, just felt more like a home. From what I have heard they plan on putting stuff up but haven't, a bunch of their friends joke with them about the house not being decorated, she blames him, he blames her.... LOL

  • give them a fire extinguisher and a gift card. If they ever have a fire, they may just be thanking you for saving their house! That reminds me... I need a fire extinguisher in my kitchen!

  • Gift cards would be great. What about Target, Pier One, etc. You can get candle holders and candles, I wouldn't get pictures because their taste may not be the same as yours.
