How long are canned pickles good for?

My husband brought home a jar from a cousin that has a date of 8/22/08
are they still good?
They have not been opened

  • I'm sure they're fine. My grandma cans EVERYTHING and we've had pickles that were older than that. The amount of salt that goes into it is outrageous.

  • Unless you see bubbles on top, they're fine. Pickles last longer than just about any other canned food.

  • as long as the top is not popped, they should be fine. i would not keep them more than a year past the expiration date

  • They should be fine, b/c vinegar is a preserver. But if they look cloudy and smell, or have gone soft, then throw them out. :)
