At what age did you kid start riding a bike?

My daughter is almost 4 she rides a bike with training wheels & was riding a 3wheeler barbie bike @ 2 years old. My son is 2 & acts like he has no idea how to pedal & just 'cant do it'. Just wondering if that's pretty normal & when other kids rode bikes.

  • my daughter was about 3 1/2 when she figured out how to use the pedals on a tricycle. now at 4 1/2 she has a bike with training wheels. there's no standard age for when they should know how.

  • My 3 year old is finally pedaling forward. My 2 year old still pushes it along with his feet. LOL

  • my oldest had one on her first birthday but didn't really care about riding it until she was about 3, my middle dd would have been riding that bike at 18months if she could have. my youngest doesn't seem to care about a bike either.

oldest (8)still uses her training wheels - she's a rollerblader not a cyclist.
middle(6) hasn't used training wheels in a year
youngest (3) would rather walk or pull the wagon.

  • My son never wanted to use the pedals until recently and he is about 3 1/2. He still likes to pedal backwards on his little three wheelers. He barely gets his bike with training wheels moving forward at all. At age 2 he didn't want anything to do with the pedals.

  • Kids are different. My youngest is 3 and can't figure out how to pedal a bike. But, then again, she doesn't have her own bike so she doesn't get to practice much.
My older kids were about 3 when they figured it out with a lot of practice. Before that they would just push themselves with their feet on their tricycle.
My middle daughter wouldn't even ride a bike with training wheels when she as 5. She was terrified she was going to fall off. She's 6 1/2 now and can ride with the training wheels but I took them off. Now she won't touch her bike at all. My oldest two ride without training wheels. They learned last summer at 8 and 6 1/2.
