  • Obama's Salary is $400,000
    The Vice Pres's salary is $221,000

    Yet the director of the YMCA in Houston makes 621,000????????????? All the YMCA does is provide a gym and classes and sports right?

  • WOW GOODNESS OF MY HEART- MY ASS! THAT MUST BE WHY IT COSTS A ARM AND A LEG TO JOIN THE YMCA WHEN YOU DON'T MEET THE BELOW POVERTY GUIDELINES BY LIKE $50 BUCKS.

  • No, it's not too high. They are paid what they would be paid if they were in a for-profit organization. If the organizations want to attract top people, they must be willing to pay. It's not exactly a highschool grad kind of job.
    And, yes the President might have a lower salary, but if you include all the benefits (free housing, food, travel, etc..) that the President has then his actual salary is much much higher.

  • IDK what the answer is here. They may have huge responsibilities, but doesn't it make you think twice when these organizations ask you for donations? That's the issue. These organizations that rely heavily on the donations pay huge salaries to the CEOs and presidents. So a large percentage of your donation is really going to pay salaries, rather than directly going towards providing services to people in need.

    I guess the flip side of that is that perhaps these charities and organizations couldn't exist without the expertise of the people in those positions. That expertise comes at a price. Maybe the salaries need to be competative with the salaries that large for-profit companies pay their CEOs and presidents. Otherwise the postitions wouldn't be filled by capable people.
