My one month old isn't pooping frequently.

When she does it's more solid and not very much. She is a breastfed baby she seems happy and she passes gas a lot. She kind of grunts but when she is grunting she normally does pass gas, is she constipated? Or is there any need to really worry?

  • My son was BF at a month and didn't poop normally that early either. He also grunted for a while during the pooping and gas LOL Just inquire with your pediatrician when you should worry, like after how many days of no BMs. There systems are still developing!!! They will tell you what the poop is supposed to like as well at what stages.

  • its normal for breastfed babies to go weeks with out pooping. If she isnt fighting to get it out, and if she isnt in pain dont worry about it too much. Its all normal.

  • if she doesn't seem to be in pain, she is fine. my son only pooped maybe once a week at that age. maybe she's just being nice and saving diapers:)

  • Is she getting anything other than bm at all, ever? If she isn't, it's highly unlikely she is constipated. BF babies almost never get constipated. Their bodies just use up most everything, after a few weeks to a few months their bowel movements will change a few times, usually but not always decreasing. My dd only pooped once a week first first 6 months or so. My ds does once a day but skips a day now and then. Look up more info on kellymom about infant constipation.

  • Breastfed babies can go up to two weeks (or more) without pooping and it's normal. The milk is almost completely used and there is very little waste. A little more solid is not constipated. Constipated means hard pellet-like poop. Breast milk is a natural laxative so babies that are exclusively breastfed (not getting anything else) do not get constipated.
