  • New. It's her first first day of school. So she will be in a new outfit.

  • My kid will probably end up in hand-me-down or second hand clothes for most of her life.

  • I remember the thrill on the first day of school wearing all new clothes with all new supplies- new pen, new notebooks, and so forth. We didn't have much money, but we did have a new outfit on that first day of school.

For my boys, I went through their school clothes before the new school year started, and usually they couldn't wear any of them. So the older boy got a few new outfits, the younger one got the hand me downs, but often the clothes were worn out, so he got at least one new outfit, which he could wear on the first day.

  • Whichever they want. I do pick up some new clothes for the upcoming school year at the good sales at the end of the summer, but they can choose what they wear on the first day. Usually they do choose a new outfit.

  • Our 11yr old will be in a new uniform for her first day of 6th grade. Drab grey and olive green - can you say YUCK?!?! Usually we order a bunch of uniform shirts from Lands End and have her initials or her first name put on them and her old school colors were navy blue and white; this year we have to pretty much stick to what the school is mandating. Much of the school's 1st-12th around here are uniformed schools no matter if it's public or private. Our youngest will be heading off in a brand spanking new outfit for her first day of pre-k. Pre-K and Kindergarden don't have to wear school uniforms yet.
