What is a lentil?

I know this is a dumb question but I see alot of posts suggesting people to eat this and I have no idea what it is!

  • Most say it is beans that are flat ...I found them in the bean area at Wal-Mart nexts to the pinto, and black beans. My sister likes how I cook them and only keep them on hand for her but I say they are a very small falt kinda of brownish tan bean.

  • Lentils are a legume; kind of a flat bean. Loaded with Iron, fiber, protein, calcium, zinc, potassium and B vitamins, they are a nutritional powerhouse.
    I use them in many different dishes: sloppy joes, tacos, Morrocan soup, Italian stew, Indian curries, etc.
