Baby eye color question- if your baby/child has brown eyes...

I have blue eyes and so do my two older daughters. (their father has brown) I just had a baby with my husband (different father) who also has brown eyes.

I just want to know if you have a mix like that what did your babies eyes do? Was the baby born with brown eyes or blue? did they darken very gradually or overnight? how soon should they start changing?

My baby Gabriella has dark blue eyes right now... I am watching to see if they darken because I want a brown eyed baby. (My whole family has light eyes and his are all colored, hazel, green or darker brown)

  • They generally darken slowly. Slowly enough that one day you stop, stare, and say to yourself "Hey! Her eyes are brown now!"
When does it happen? Generally by age 1. But some people have their eyes change color later, even as adults. But generally, the color they are at 1 is the color that will be listed on their first driver's license 15 years later.

  • I have blue eyes, my husband has brown eyes and our first son has my eyes and our second son has his daddy's eyes. My first son's eyes were hard to hell what color they would be at first, my second son I knew right away that they would be brown. Your baby will either have your eye, or your husbands, or even a granparent's eyes. I have a friend whose eyes were brown and so were her husbands... but her baby eye's were blue.... from one of the grandparents.

  • My oldest is from a brown eyed father... I'm blue/green... She's got grey eyes. My youngest (currently.. I'm pg) is also from a brown eyed father (different fom m oldest) and she's got brown as well. but her eyes never changes.. they were brown from the start.

It depends on what's ressesive in the genes i guess. I cme from a brown eyed father and a blue eyed mother.... my eyes are more green than blue. My half fom came from a grown eyed father as ell and he has brown.

  • anony, lol, one of my sil's was told by her biology teacher that her parents couldn't be her parents because of her blue eyes... you never know what genes you have, unless you have blue eyes, then you know you have all blue genes. with any other color you could have your color gene plus three others, each of which could be a different color, (4 eye color markers, 2 from each parent) and there could be a recessive color from way far back that just never ended up being the dominant trait. it's a bit ocnvoluted and interesting, and i am hoping that my husband doesn't have any blue genes so that our lil one can have a different eye color. cross your fingers for me.
