My 8 month infant seems lethargic since I fed him bread make with honey. Do you think it is worrysome?

He is sleeping more than ususal. Basicaly all day(5 naps, 1-2 hours long). Has a fever of 100.1(ear thermometer.) I worried.

  • infants arent supposed to have honey at all but i don't know what symptoms they get or if it would matter if it was cooked into the bread but i would deffinitly ask a pediatrician

  • I thought you weren't supposed to give a child under 12 months honey? But maybe I'm just old and they've since changed that. Did it have honey on it or the bread was made with honey in it? I would call the doctor and make sure they think everything's o.k.

  • get him to a dr. asap. babies (under 1) werent supposed to have honey due to the bacteria which can be very fatal.

  • babies are NOT supposed to have Honey before 1 year of age. I can't remember why....I'd take him to the ER and tell the docs about the honey! Good luck!

  • The problem with honey is that is can contain the bacteria that cause botulism, which paralyzes the muscles of respiration (meaning that the baby will not be able to breathe). I agree that your child needs to go to the doctor ASAP.

    This was already answered, while I agree that the OP should call a doc, I don't think baked in goods that contain honey would be harmful to a child who can eat table foods.
