TANNING OIL for a 5year old

So the other day at the pool, I saw a neighbor putting tanning oil on her 5yr old boy. Later we happened to be talking and she told me that her son ABSOLUTELY HAD TO HAVE A TAN! HE WILL BE THE TANNEST KID IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. She'll put sunscreen on him ONLY if she sees him getting too red. I asked her how long she's done this and she said since he was 2yrs old. I was speechless. I didn't know what to say. I know I'm being judgemental about this, but, my can you not? This could potentially seriously hurt the child! Am I crazy to think this is nuts???

  • Nope you're not crazy. He can thank mommy if he ends up with skin cancer later on.

  • I would be questioning her parenting too. I wonder what else she does or doesn't do that would be questionable.

  • No your not crazy , that woman is though. WHo cares what kid is the tannest???!!! The kids don't. Its not healthy for him the sun is damaging to skin, especially little kids. WOW , poor kid. My kids don't go out of the house without sunBLOCK, and if we are out along time or in and out of pools, they get more on. Thats what your supposed to do, protect them. I would have been pissed if i saw her.

  • No you're not crazy, but that other mom is! Wow, I knew people were stupid, but really? People never cease to amaze me with their stupidity. That women needs help. Some people just shouldn't breed.

  • Not crazy at all. That poor kid is going to have a way higher risk for melanomas (which CAN be very deadly), not to mention prematurely aged skin. Even though my daughter handles sun better than I do, I STILL slather her up with 50 spf at LEAST every hour.

  • wow now I don't like sunblock because I'm a chemical engineer and have actually read what I'm baking into my skin... but TANNING OIL?? Thats just wrong. When we are outside he has hats and stays in the shade etc.... wow

  • wow is she nuts? Does she want her kid to have horrible skin damage? By the time the kids 10 it will probably have wrinkles. Some people just shouldnt have kids, maybe she should get a little lap dog instead, she sounds like shes about as smart as paris hilton.

  • Wow, I don't even put tanning oil on myself, let alone my son ...

Sometimes I wonder what people are thinking ...
