  • I wouldn't worry too much. They tend to go through this phase, especially when they are cutting molars. Keeping trying to get him to eat. One day he will eat like he had been eating.

  • My DD did the same thing just before she turned 2. My sister in law gave me the best advice. She suggested putting healthy snacks (chopped carrots, apples, raisens, dates, etc) in an ice cube tray. Then set the ice cube tray out whever they play or somewhere they can feed themselves. This worked so well for me that I would feed her all her meals and snacks this way for about a month. Then she was over it. I would also try to give her a big variety of foods.

I think they just get to busy and un interested in eating. I wouldn't give up though. He definatly isn't getting enough nutrients. Good luck. I know it is stressful!

  • I know this will probably cause hateful responses - but whatev.

Toddlers won't starve themselves. If they are truly hungry - they will eat what you have prepared them. So - if all they want is juice/water/soda - SAY NO.

Then at the next meal - they will eat whatever you have made.

Problem solved. (and this also works for kids who have autism...........and I know - because my son's autistic!)

  • Everyone of my kids have went through this phase several times.although it can be scary for you. They do come out of it.I agree with the grazing thing all of my kids would do it.As long as he isnt losing weight he should be fine.Talk to his doctor about your concerns. It always seemed like my kids did it right before they hit a growth spurt. They would grow out then up.On the way up they would stop eating.

  • Do not just let him graze! You'll have a horrible time getting him to eat properly!

Cut back on the milk and juice you give him. Give enough to keep him from dehydrating, but not so much that he gets filled up.

Offer him breakfast. If he doesn't eat it, no food until lunch. If he doesn't eat lunch, no food until supper. If he doesn't eat supper, no food until breakfast the next day.

He will not starve, he will start eating. If it's a thing where he's not eating because he's sick or something...that will become evident LONG before he's going to starve.

  • children dont grow because they eat. they eat because they are growing. and PP was right, children will not starve themselves. i tend to be pretty liberal with my kids freedoms, i let all 3 of mine pretty much eat what they wanted when they wanted and how they wanted. and miraculously, they are still alive and eating normally.
