Whiter whites w/out bleach

I have experimented w/ our laundry since we do so much I tried using straight baking soda and peroxide to clean our clothes. Works great but I noticed that our whites look dingy. Any suggestions?

  • I buy this at Trader Joes (for less than on the website)

  • I wonder if washing soda would work better than baking soda. I use borax to supplement the laundry detergent that I use, which is usually Arm and Hammer.

  • I use borax, about 1/4 cup per load unless the clothes are really stinky/dirty (eg...DH's work clothes), then I use a half cup.

  • Do you use borax in lieu of laundry detergent or as an additive? And if you just use the borax is it alone?

  • I do laundry every day guaranteed. I've switched to Norwex soap. A bag is $23.99 and can do about 90 loads in a top loading washer (160 if you use the Magnet Ball). If you have a front loading washer you can do HUNDREDS of loads. My girlfriend has a front loader and says this stuff works like a charm - use only 1 tablespoon per load. It's completely chemical free and works on all clothes. My husband is a mechanic and I have 2 kids under 2 years old and use the same soap on everything. Also, we have really rusty hard water but our whites are fine, whereas before I had to use "Iron Out" a nasty smelling cleaner to keep our clothes from turning orange. • Spray and Wash makes a new brightener that you add with your detergent . I think its called Bright & White, not sure. It works great! No more bleach stains on non white items, or bleach spatters on your shirt when doing laundry.
