  • They are generally on the low end of the scale as far as energy, and they are very good with children. However, if you get one, you need to have the time to train them properly. They will bark; its in their nature and its what they were bred to do. You will need to train them when or where to bark, and keep their minds occupied with games or tricks. This goes for just about any working class dog. Don't know a whole lot else about them, but you can probably look up more info online. Hope this helps!

  • Emuu is right on target, but I would like to add that they are very scent-oriented, and that can get them injured or killed. You have to train them to have an excellant recall. They tend to get on scent of something and go for it, not stopping for cars, cliffs, and other dangers. Never let them off leash in an unfenced area.

Also, their long ears and wrinkles trap alot of dirt, and have to be kept clean and dry. They get infections really easily because of the way their ears drop, and the wrinkles.

  • i have a bluetick coonhound and they are similar dogs. the PP are great, they are very nosey dogs and will follow a scent till they find it which requires them to be in a safe environment. they have absolutely no road sense and are not affected by environmental noises like cars or horns. their ears are long and heavy and are prone to ear infections and even when very clean the ears still smell.
the dogs are heavily boned and muscled and can weigh alot as an adult. when my dog gets to acting stupid and runs around the yard like she's on fire she can easily take out my husband and son like a freightrain.
if your kids are little they will easily be knocked down by the dog until it is about 2 years old and has all the rowdy puppy out of him.
