  • Has she been rubbing it? She could have an eyelash or some small speck of dust or fiber in her eye that is irritating it.

Is there a chance she was stung or bitten by an insect?

Either way, give her a bath, and try to flush the eye with as much water as possible. Use a clean, soaking wet washcloth, with one hand gently wipe her eye (from the corner outward), and with the other hand--using your thumb and index finger, try to open her eye and wipe with the washcloth.

After her bath, try and put a drop or two of Visene to help with the itchiness, and keep applying cold washcloth compresses to her eye to help with the swelling. If the swelling goes down, then you got out whatever was irritating it. If not, contact your pediatrician.

  • I never mess around with eye issues, take her to the could be anything from a bug bite, pink eye, infection or even a scrached cornea. If it is pink eye, she needs meds to clear it up and pink eye is highly contagious. If it is a scratched cornea, there could be more damage than you can see.

  • i'm not sure how old she is, but my 3 wk old had something like that last week. took him to the ped and she said he had a blocked tear duct, supposedly common in the first 3 months. she gave us antibiotic ointment and it was gone in 24 hours.
