  • Cooked baby carrots, chunks of cheese or cheese sticks, small pretzels. For older toddlers: apple wedges (sprinkle a few drops of lemon juice on them to retard browning) soft dried fruits, softer nuts, like walnuts and cashews. Note: nothing is truly non-messy!

  • My diaper bag is always full of snacks. Have to with 4 kids though. It's so much cheaper to buy things in bulk sizes and then put them in ziplock bags (plus kids can hold the ziplock bags and there is less of a mess!!). I get goldfish, cereal, crackers, raisins....We do a lot of string cheese, pretzels. I always have wipes in the car too in case of messes.

  • I really like these:

100% fruit that's crispy like a potato chip.  Awesome.  They are dried, not fried or even baked and really do count as a serving (or 2) of fruit.  Since they are dry, they don't have a sticky, drippy juice issue.  They are also super light weight for carrying in your bag.  I got them at CostCo buy other places may have them too.

  • Raisins have been my lifesaver here lately!!! Usually I have a small container of cerel and about three boxes of raisins.... my dd loves raisins at the moment, I honestly think she ate 4 small boxes of them today!!!! Better than chocolates though, so I'm not complaining!! She really likes stuff like Life Cereal or Cheerios. I'd get one of those bowls with the soft plastic lids that have the holes in the top so the toddler can get the goodies out, but the goodies won't fall out of the bowl... another lifesaver!!!
