depressed toddler?

my 16 month old was just sitting, very still, staring in space. I said her name. Nothing. She was deep in thought. Finally she responded and looked at me with the pout face and started crying! Is this normal?

  • Maybe she isn't feeling well today. Or if it is all the time then maybe you should consult your Ped. i don't think it's depression but it could be something else.

  • Give her a nap, or take her out for some fresh air at the local park.

  • I really don't want to be an alarmist but, you might actually want to talk to a doctor. is she doing it frequently?

my youngest does it too - hers are absence(petit mal) seizures.

" In absence seizures, the person may appear to be staring into space with or without jerking or twitching movements of the eye muscles. These periods last for seconds, or even tens of seconds"
