How long do you cook fresh-picked green beans?

  • Steam until tender. Maybe 20-30 minutes. But do not over-cook. Some like a bit of bite to their green beans. Others like them a bit softer. So just test them until you get them to your liking.

  • I cook them the southern way. All day long at a simmer with a hunk of salt pork. YUM!!!

  • I agree with Cindy, a long cooking time and some kind of meat as seasoning, bacon, ham.. I've never used salt pork but I'll bet it's good. I just cooked some fresh green beans a few days ago, I let them cook for about 30-40 minutes. I like them soft.

  • I like my green beans just a tad crunchy so I steam them for about 10-15 minutes.

  • I brush a cookie sheet with olive oil, lay out the beans, sprinkle with sea salt, and stick in the oven for a few minutes at around 375
