What are the safest carseat brands to buy?

Right now my 15 wk old is in a Graco rear facing car seat, my hubby and i did a lot of online searching and decided to purchase Graco, but it never donned on me to ask this question in a forum.. just wondering what brands other moms prefer? also, i would like to keep her rear facing as long as possible are there any car seats that maybe, allow for rear facing to last longer? thank you.. :)

  • Your Graco seat is probably a good seat for right now, they have really nice infant seats. When she outgrows it you will want to look for a convertible seat... there are a few really good ones for extended rear facing in a wide range of prices. From low to high.... Cosco Scenera, Evenflo Triumph Advance, Graco MyRide 65, Frist Years True Fit, and any of the Britax convertibles are good. All of these are good seats... the more expensives ones have more features and are probably a bit more comfortable. All will allow you to rear face to 35 pounds. And a few will rear face to 40.
Join a car seat board on cafe mom... they have a ton of great info to share.

  • They all pass the same standards.
But Graco and Britax have the highest "customer satisfaction" ratings. Graco has an infant seat that stays rear facing until 35 pounds. Both brands have convertible seats that keep infants rear facing longer.

  • Kaycee-actually Britax is side impact tested.

  • All seats have to pass the same industry standards.

The safest seat is the one in which the baby fits best and which fits in your vehicle properly. Not all seats can be installed in all vehicles correctly.

  • Our first infant car seat was a Graco and my granddaughter outgrew it when she was only 10 lbs! So we went to a sale at Sears, looked over all they had, and found an Eddie Bauer brand that goes from newborn up to 45 lbs - we just need to buy her a booster seat when she outgrows it. It is large, full of cushion and softness, and the harnness doesn't pinch her chunky
