How much in taxes do you get for having a baby?

Just curious as to what the addition will be in my federal income tax check next year.

  • I don't know what state you live in, but I live in Virginia with 5 children. We get back $600 per child.

  • When I was single & no kids I got back $900...when I was single & had my daughter I got back $3500.00 When I was single & had my daughter & my son I got back $6900 (last year). That was even with me changing my pay status to 2 so they would take out less taxes. They are a nice size deduction....I've made roughly the same amt of $ during the past 5 years & have gotten back much more since having children.

  • You don't get anything in taxes for having a child. Your taxable income is decreased by $1,000 a year for every child that you have. Here is a link that you can copy and paste:
