When did your baby start clapping their hands?

My daughter is almost seven months old. She LOVES patty cake, it's her favorite game. Just today, when I start clapping my hands and saying the whole patty cake patty cake thing, she starts clapping her hands as well! Yay! I'm happy <:oD

  • Mine started about 8 months or so, but we never really did patty cake with him. He looooves clapping and being clapped for now!

  • I think my son did it after he was 1 -lol!! I think he waited though cause he knew we wanted him to do it - he did it before that but only a couple times cause we kept asking him - stubborn nature like his daddy..lol!

  • My son started clapping at about 13-14 mo. He did it a few other times before but i dont think he realized what he was doing. Now he claps ALL the time when he thinks he accomplishes something (like putting something away or playing with a toy) and expects us to do the same. If he claps we have to clap.

  • That is SO sweet!
My granddaughter is 5 1/2 months and blinks furiously when I clap...lol. She hasn't tried it yet and I keep showing her how. I'm not going to rush her, though, because I know she'll get it eventually.
It is so cute to watch them clap with their fingers splayed out and their tiny little hands not meeting perfectly centered. ♥

  • We never did patty-cake or anything so my son was a late clapper. He waved "hi" and "bye-bye" long before clapping. JUST starting clapping at 10 months.
