About how much would I have to pay out of pocket to have a midwife?

That's for prenatal care and a birth in a center or at home. I have tricare prime btw and live in Maryland

  • My midwife had a flat fee of $1600 for the prenatal care and delivery. Lab fees and U/S were extra.

  • I think she would be as long as she was in the network of approved providers.

  • Many midwives are also able to work with families. Maybe payments or barter? Keep your options open and good luck!

  • Check to see if the one you are looking into takes insurance cause a lot of them do, if not the fee is usually about $2000 - $5000

  • Well it depends on where you live and if she is a CNM your unsruance may well cover her. Around here with no insurance a home birth is about $1200-$2000 and they often work with you to make payment plans etc. That did not include ultrasounds or lab work or anything either. I know some people who go to an ob to get that stuff covered by insurance and to just get that stuff done and have a lay midwife who delivers them at home later and they just don't tell the doc their plans. There are also CNMs around here who deliver at home and can order the ultrasound and labs and have insurance cover them even if it doesn't cover the midwife.
