Righty or Lefty?

Which is your child? (or if your child isn't old enough to really "tell" yet which hand do they favor?)

  • Our son seems to be ambidextrous.  I was recently telling a former pre-school teacher this, and she said it's common for children to experiment with each hand and to finally settle on the one that will be their "handedness" when they are around 4-5.

  • My son is 4 and has always used his left hand for everything whenever he uses his right hand he is awkward. When he tries to write with his right hand he holds the pencil all weird and stuff but with his left hand it's natural, he can't even feed himself with his right hand. Just annoys me when people tell me when I tell them he's left handed they usually respond with "well he's still young so you can never tell!" ..

  • 2 right handers. We'll see what their little brother turns out to be. I am left handed and my husband is a righty.

  • I have one righty.

My 3 year old seems to be leaning towards righty, but still favors his left for some activities (like cutting with scissors) and now that we have an OT who doesn't force him to use his right all the time, we're monitoring and recording what he does with which hand so we know how to work with him.

My 2 year old seems to be favoring his right much more...however at his age they're not really supposed to have such a preference as he does.

  • My son is 13 and he writes and eats with his left hand. He also prefers to kick with his left foot. However, he throws a baseball with his right hand and bats right handed.

  • My girls are all righties and my 2 yr. old son seems to throw a ball with his left hand more comfortably and swings a bat as though he were a lefty.
