Obama's approval ratings below that of Carter at the 6-month mark!

"Obama, who completed six months in office Monday, has a 55% approval rating in the USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, putting him 10th among the dozen presidents who have served since World War II at this point in their tenures."

"The biggest drop has been on his handling of the economy, down 12 points since February; his disapproval is up 19 points. The most erosion has come not from Republicans or independents but among his own Democrats. Support from conservative and moderate Democrats is down by 18 points. Another group in the party's political base — those earning $20,000 to $50,000 a year — had a drop of 15 percentage points, to 47%."

Is this foretelling of Obama's presidency? Do you think he can bounce back?

  • The problem is too many people thought he could clean the mess up as soon as he took office, and that's just not how its going to work

The problem is he led people to believe that and alot of people were dumb enough to believe it. He has done alot to make a things way worse with his spending and the threat of cap and trade and his idea of healthcare reform have the market scared. Many places are paying ovetime to their employees and holding back on hiring because they don't know if he will actually get his economy crippling policies through.

  • I think alot of people where expecting handouts and expecting things to be fixed overnight. especially people making between 20-50 thousand a year. Americans are all about instant anything and that is just not how things work.

  • How many other presidents have faced a clean up project like he is now since WWII? The problem is too many people thought he could clean the mess up as soon as he took office, and that's just not how its going to work. The economy problem is global, there's only so much he can do in such a short time frame.

  • I thought when the polls that said he is viewed so positively around the world came out no one cared and said they didn't matter anyway and that polls are BS? For the love of Pete, which is it? We care about the polls or we don't? It is BEYOND transparent that the Obama haters love the polls that are negative, but completely dismiss the ones that are positive. Whatever already.

  • Obama's 55% approval rating is NOTHING to laugh about... As the ecomony gets better, and it will polls will increase.

Reagans tumbled to 42 percent in the early '80s recessions (unemployment hit a 40-year high in 1982). It recovered to 70 percent in early 1986 as the economy improved, but then dived by 26 points in nine months during the Iran-Contra scandal.
