Qestion about twins.

I have a friend who has twin daughters. They are fraternal, but they look the same. I cant tell them apart... How is it that they're fraternal and no one can tell them apart? My Sister in laws are fraternal twins and theyre polar opposites. I also just found out that the Olson twins are fraternal, yet as children they couldnt be told apart either... How are they not identical if they cant be told apart? I can see if they looked alike as sisters often do.. Like John and kates oldest girls. You can tell theyre sisters but not identical. Can anyone shine some light on this?

  • My sister's girls are identical. They had separate amnionic sacs but shared a chorionic (sp?) sac. However, one clearly favors my sister and one favors my brother-in-law.

It's just the way genetics is, sometimes. I've seen siblings (both singleton pregnancies) who looked almost exactly like each other, except for the size difference due to age.

  • It all depends on the way the egg seperates...or in this case there being two eggs. I think siblings usually look similar but with some twins more than other siblings

  • I have identical twins. They are polar opposites in personality. They have the same eye color and shape, same nose, lip and ear shape but one is fuller in the face. One has thin hair and one has thick.
I don't think they look alike at all but people who aren't around them daily tell me they do.

  • I have fraternal twin boys. They look related but not alike. One is dark skin the other light. one is little one is significantly taller. and when i did some reaserch on the subject i ound its much more complicated than seperate sacks and whatnot. Its too scientific for me to explain, but the lady said pretty palinly about it just being how it is. some sibs look alike some dont.

  • In this case they got dna that is very similar. Also being the same gender they tend to look more alike. Remember fraternal means two eggs, two sperm. If dad and mom have similar looks then even fraternal twins will look similiar. Also baby twins tend to look alike and they grow to be more different as time goes by.

I have identicals, one egg, one sperm.
