What method was used.....?

to teach your child how to read. I saw in another post that the school taught one letter a week to the kids in her childs kinder class. What did you, your childs daycare/preschool or childs elementary school do to teach your child to read? Methods please. Advice would be great.

  • We read to her daily. Labeled everything in the house (DOOR, WINDOW, etc.). She started reading right around her 4th birthday and was reading chapter books before she turned 5

  • William knew his letters in pre-k but then in kindergarten it was 1 letter a week. They work on the sound and words that correspond with those letters. He also learned how to write that letter during that week. They also teach kid-writing in our district. That is when the kids write stories using the sounds and the letters they know. The teacher then writes under the misspelled word using "adult writing". In this type of writing it is always positive feedback on what they do right when writing their story. This helps alot when learning to read.
