Young marriage?

Would you let your child get married at 16?

Remember this is just for fun. I'm not in the situation nor is anyone I know. And I have no idea if I would let him...

  • Absolutely.

In fact, we talked a lot about that when our kids were coming up to that age. We joked about it -setting them up in their own condo and pressuring them to make us grandchildren...

I know one young (now married couple) who after dating very seriously for a few years told their parents that they wanted to get married at 17. Their parents wigged out, said 'absolutely not, over my dead body'... so after having been sexually active, responsibly, for more than a year, they went off birth control in order to get pregnant so their devout parents would 'make' them get married.

    Ha ha ha ha ha!

  • My mom tried to make me get married when I had just turned 17. I was pregnant and she wanted me to marry my baby's dad. I didn't want to, he didn't want to.(we are engaged now) I wouldn't let my son get married at 16, or 17, I wouldn't even be very happy about 18. I might let him move out around 17 depending on the situation and his maturity.

  • Nope, I got married at 19 and nobody was against it but I do wish we had waited. Yes we would still have married each other I just wish we had finished college and done a little more stuff (together) before getting married.

  • I probably would not consent. I was engaged at 18 & married at 20 (to the same guy I have today!) But I also wish we would have waited. I wish we would have learned more about ourselves as individuals, rather than a couple. I think it would have made our relationship even stronger now.

  • Being someone that waited until I was 30 before I was married, I would say no. I hope and pray at age 16 or 17 my son is more concerned with what college he will be attending or Servie he will be joining..
