disposing of old cooking oil?

i dont have a container right now, is it safe to just dump it out in the dirt?

  • I'm afraid if you dispose of it in the dirt outside that it will draw rats. Here is what I found by googling: to put it in a sealed container and send to landfill, to see if a local restaurant would let you dump it in their oil disposal containers, to take it to a recycling place if you have one that takes cooking grease, and I did see to add it to a compost pile. I have heard a number of times to never pour it down the drain, even small amounts.

  • If it is still hot, pour it down the sink while running hot water and a squirt of dishsoap.

  • Well I had dumped it outside by a bush, my dh said I would kill the bush. So now I put two or three plastic grocery bags together and put it in that and then out to the trash can.
