What do you do when stay at home life has you down?

I've been struggling a lot with depression lately. What do you do when you're feeling down?

  • I take my kids to the park. Then I actually PLAY with the kids. Not just "supervise" but get a game of full action slide tag going.
    Sure Sure Sure I may get the "look" from the park bench Mom's, but nothing kicks my blues like letting my gaurd downa and really having FUN with my kids.

  • I usually get a massage... it really helps... or eat somewhere that makes me happy.

  • Visit family. Get outdoors. Do things way out of your norm. That's helped me in the past.

  • Perhaps get part time work, even a couple hours a couple days a week. I used to do a lot of volunteer work.

  • Get out quick! Take a walk, go to the park, or anything. I had post partum depression with my first, and we spent a lot of time out of the house. Just getting out makes your day go faster.

  • I get busy in one of my many projects, try a new recipe, go out to the pool, go riding on my horse, head to the park...Just don't lay around the house !

  • First I would try to figure out why I'm feeling depressed. Is it just from being home or is it something else. Keeping busy of course, is the key. Try a craft. Check out your local craft store or even a quilt shop. Quilting is great (I love to quilt) and very rewarding. But like others have posted, get busy with something!

    4 tablespoons flour
    4 tablespoons sugar
    2 tablespoons cocoa
    1 egg
    3 tablespoons milk
    3 tablespoons oil
    3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
    A small splash of vanilla extract
    1 large coffee mug

    Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well.. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
    Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
    Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
    Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
    The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
    Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
    EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).
