  • We found a pukey green dresser in a alley. We took it some, scraped it, sanded it, put some polyurethane on it. It is a magnificent oak dresser, solid wood (even the back), dovetailed drawers; the only expense was the varnish and the brush.

  • We got our crib and changing table/dresser at Ikea. Consumer Reports gave the Leksvik a good score and it was around $160. The changing table/dresser was similarly priced.

  • Sad truth is that dressers in general cost more than beds. And most "new' dressers aren't worth the price. The drawers are so shallow! Two sweatshirts and your done. Look for an older one that someone is getting rid of.

  • My daughters dresser is an entertainment cabinet we bought at Target and we converted.. it already had two drawers in the bottom, and then we installed a bar across the top where the TV would sit to hang the rest of her clothes. My sons dresser is an antique we bought at Salvation army.. we scraped it, had it lead tested, then sanded and re-painted. Its gorgeous and cost only $40 - $10 to buy it, and $30 for the test and the paint.

You dont HAVE to buy the matching dresser and crib set... after all, they arent in cribs forever! We spent ALOT on the crib, bought one of the cherry wood sleigh 3 in 1 crib/beds.. both kids used it, by the time we considered turning it into a bed, we had lost instructions and parts! Waste of money, IMO... and since we dont use it anymore, I am glad we didnt buy the matching dresser!
