Why isn't everyone fat??

I often read the "what are you having for dinner" questions and am SHOCKED at what everyone eats, don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to eat this way, but am desperately trying to lose the last 15 pounds from the kids... I see things like hot dogs, pizza, enchiladas, tacos, mac and cheese, hamburgers, etc...OMG, I'd be 500 pounds if I ate those things for dinner, I'm so jealous, how do you all do it??

  • They might not be fat, but they probably aren't very healthy. I'm fat but I don't eat processed foods or fried foods, or even much meat, but I'm totally healthy. My sister is tiny, but she has so many health problems in part, I think, because she does not eat a very good diet. I eat a really healthy diet, I drink lots of water and exercise daily (Okay not this week, we are in the middle of a heat wave, but normally 20-30 minutes a day) and I'm still fat, so the number on a scale doesn't always have much to do with overall health.

  • I eat what I want and when I want, it is my portion sizes that are small. I lost like 30 pounds and have kept it off that way, I went from a size 12 to a 4-6. I am very short so 30 pounds is alot for me.

  • idk whats gonna happen after i have the baby, but i had a pretty good metabolism that allowed me to eat what I wanted and not gain much weight at all.

  • I have always had an extremely high metabolism. The way that I eat I should weigh 500lbs && I say that all the Especially as much bread as I eat, I swear I eat more bread by myself than my whole family does combined. Aside from when I was pregnant, I weigh the most that I ever have right now, 126lbs && I'm 5' 7." I eat ALL the time, even when I'm not hungry. I eat just b/c I'm bored sometimes. I just got lucky.

  • Yup, portions size is what matters. Like having only one or at most two slices of pizza rather than eating half or of one pizza more by yourself.

  • It depends on their activity level. The truth is it doesn't matter how fat or skinny they are. They can't eat like that and be healthy.

I have a very slow metabolism. I can't eat bad and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

  • Yup, what Rebecca said. Thin doesn't equate to healthy by any means. People will suffer the effects of eating that stuff eventually whether they are thin or fat.

  • Yup to you both above me.

  • That and you have to realize, that just because someone eats something unhealthy one night, doesn't mean they eat junk food like pizza or hot dogs every night.

  • I went to a girlfriends today and while she was doing my hair she ordered a chili cheese dog, mt. dew and a bag of chips. I would be fat if I ate like that! Then I remember how much energy I have and how much better my body feels when I eat my grilled salmon, steamed veggies and fruit parfait. :-)
