Adult ADD

Who has it? How do you treat it? What have you tried? What worked/what side effects have you had? What other tips and helpful practices can you give to someone else with Adult ADD?

My husband is being treated right now for adult ADD and he really wants to get it under control. All help will be greatly appreciated!

  • My husband has had it since he was pretty young, he also suffers from PTSD, which makes it even worse.
He's not under treatment for either one, for him - he doesn't have the 15 second attention span he had when he was younger, but will obsess over things on the tv or computer. He'll get on the pc sometimes and not come up for air sometimes for hours. It makes it hard for me to be able to leave the house if he's watching the boys, because he mostly isn't even aware that they are in the house.
He is getting a bit better, but not by much.

  • Adult ADD/ADHD is treated very differently than kids.

There are many therapists who work with people who have ADD/ADHD; they teach them not just coping skills, but how to use ADD/ADHD as an advantage in their lives. Thom Hartmann has written extensively on this topic; you should be able to find his books art your local library, there is lots of information at his website: http://www.thomhartmann.com/category/thom/adhd-education/
