Is there a particular color to stay away from...

when you dress for an interview? I am interviewing for a city clerk position. I plan to wear a skirt and jacket with a blouse. I want to be memorable, but I do not want my first impression to create a "no way" response!

  • If you are wearing a darker colored suit, (navy, gray, black), then a light colored blouse would look nice--pale pink, taupe, cream, even a soft green or blue. Definitely no brights! If the suit is lighter colored, just pair it with a blouse that coordinates with the suit. Perhaps under a light suit the blouse could be slightly bolder than with the dark suit, but still nothing that "pops" too much. Just look low-key, clean, and professional and I'm sure you'll do brilliantly. Good luck!

  • Avoid reds for an interview. Darker suit with blouse in pale colors in a very light peach, soft mint green, light blues. Wear what ever color suits your eyes and hair best. You can even wear a darker colored blouse like a hunter green, royal blue, deep rose. Depends on how hot it is where you are. If you have pierced ears, post earrings with something like pearls or fake pearls if you have them or something just very plain. No other jewelry except plain rings/wedding ring. And shoes should be lower pumps, nothing too high heeled. Good luck to you, hope you get the job!!
