  • Well my opinion is take the money help them get clothes and get into schooling and try to help them get a job

Okay, I'll agree, shuffling them around to another bridge to sit under is not positive, but how do you propose to educate a 57 year old wino who won't take his prescribed anti-psychotic drugs, has lowered his original normal !.Q. to about 45 with illegal drugs, alcohol and injury, and who wants to sit on a park bench and talk to himself all day? What kind of job do you want to give him? Schooling and jobs may, undoubtably would, help some of the homeless, but there are others who need a different approach. WHAT that different approach is has apparently not yet been discovered. A lot of homeless folks appeared when the government in a burst of misguided compassion closed all the live-in mental hospitals and the former patients had no where to go, no relatives to help and couldn't function on their own.

  • I dont know.... New York has always had a major problem with the homeless. Just too many of them. What does it matter to you what bridge they sleep under tonight? Or what shelter they eat at in the morning. It doesnt matter the location, they will still be homeless.

  • Well he isn't just carting them off per-say. I saw this on the news and it's stated in your link..  "In order for a homeless person to get on a one-way flight, a relative has to agree to take them in. But that doesn't guarantee anything."

It cost them 36,000 year to house a homeless family I believe. Also, believe it or not, a lot of people choose to be homeless for whatever reason I will never understand.  Once they are on the plane supposedly going with family there isn't much more they can do.

  • Not sure what can be done about homeless people. So many are homeless by choice. We have tried to help several families that were homeless. Gave them jobs and housing. They blew the job opportunity and lost the housing. It was sad to see those kids end up once again homeless. Have not seen one successful attempt to get anyone out of homelessness. Might now since some are homeless because of a job loss not laziness or mental illness. We had to take a break from helping but will start again. Just hard to find employers willing to give them a chance when they have been burned many times by homeless they have given a chance.
