If Insurance/Healthcare is a "right", why isn't food?

I have seen/heard people say over and over again that healthcare is a right. I just can't understand why everyone isn't clamoring for the government to feed us all as well. We have to have food to survive. Why isn't it a right?

If healthcare is a right and should be free for all, shouldn't food?

  • Give them time. We will have to expand Food Stamps for all. Anyone using money to buy food will be arrested. We have many who want things handed to them and have no concept of what actual work is. Sitting on Cafemom ignoring their kids all day is not a job. lol

  • I dont think any of it should be handed to us, free for all? Nothing is ever free...someone is going to pay so the question is who? when you dont have to work for something you take it for granted. Goverment is WAY to involved in our lives. We dont need more programs we need less.

  • No where in the Constitution does it say healthcare/insurance is a right. As for care anyone can go into a hospital and recieve care they cannot be turned down. There are numerous alternatives in place such as clinics that offer payment based on income and the health departments.

  • By the way I am not saying we should not have some reform....but I am HIGHLY againt yet another government take over and do not tell me it is not. That is indeed what it will be.Even Barney Frank has said he fully supports single payer and THIS is the way to get there.

  • I will say it is a right. If you saw someone dying in the street and offered to take them to the hospital and they were refused care because of insurance you would be screaming for someone to save them...

also, it is costing you more for people to NOT have insurance.

  • "The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under
the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist
program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without
knowing how it happened." ~Norman Thomas 1884-1968.....six US presidential candidate for The Socialist Party of America.

  • What some fail to realize is the number of uninsured is exaggerated.Someone else might have the numbers to throw out but yes indeed it is exaggerated.Illegals are included for one.Send them all back where they came from that would save us a good amount. Also those who choose not to have insurance and those who at the time had none but do now.Obama himself racked that number up one more million during one of his stumping speeches recently.
