What does this mean to you?

`grandfathered health insurance coverage' means individual health insurance coverage that is offered and in force and effect before the first day of Y1 (first day of plan taking effect)

Limitation on Individual Health Insurance Coverage-
(1) IN GENERAL- Individual health insurance coverage that is not grandfathered health insurance coverage under subsection (a) may only be offered on or after the first day of Y1 as an Exchange-participating health benefits plan.

To me it means if you don't have insurance(say you are self employed) You have to go into the government exchange program and cannot just get your own outside of "the plan" once it is in effect. Loss of Choice

  • It pretty much blows. Also, if you lose your job after the plan is in effect and lose the insurance that job provided you, it will be illegal for you to get your own private plan. You will have to go on government health care.

    fun right...? ugh!

  • Right sunny good point you brought up.I am sure some out there think meh if it doesn't work out we can just scrap it...WRONG look at the other govy programs which have gone to chit and yet still there they be...and again no working on fixing those LETS MAKE MORE! lol....If it passes it will be close to impossible to reverse and it would not be in any of OUR lifetimes.

  • You guys complain about this like having freedom of choice in health care has been such a great thing. Have you not read the stories about how many people are going bankrupt or dying because the insurer of their or their employer's choice is refusing coverage or not paying adequately? Have you not heard about how many private insurers deny treatment because the treatment is "experimental" even if its accepted?
