Breaking a fever

My 17 month old has been running a fever all day. I've given her 3 doses of Tylenol and Motrin and her fever is still 101. Any ideas on how to break the fever?

  • Is she acting sick, a fever is a sign of infection or something going on inside her body, her fever will not go away until either her body gets rid of what is causing it in the first place or the Dc thinks its a bacterial infectin and gives her antibiotics. Be careful with giving both the motrin and tylenol, they both have acethamephen in them and she could be getting too much and harm her. If you become to worried, call her ped.

  • I would let the fever run it's course. I wouldn't give anything for a fever of 101. A fever's the body's natural way of fighting off infection, when you lower that, your body isnt' able to do that. A fever of 101 is not dangerous

  • call the doctor and get a wet wash cloth and place it on the back of the neck, or have your baby outside a little kid pool to keep her temperature down.

  • I would call them, tell them what is going on, it might be something going around and they may be able to give tips to try, if she is acting sick and just not herself, yes call them and get her in..

  • Take her in, if ever she has a fever and acting fussy, weird etc.. dont try to lower it unless it gets high and take her to the Doctor. OTC meds are good but sometimes they do more harm than good and just mask an infection.
