Sweetened Condensed Milk?

what can i do with SCM? i have two 14 oz cans & no clue what to do with them! we are super short on money right now so im trying to use all the stuff thats just been sitting in our pantry to keep us from feeling deprived haha. my only experience with it is fudge, so i really dont have a clue what it can do.

can i whip it into a cream-like substance?
also, would it taste good as a substitute for a creamed soup (if i savored it up a lot?)
any simple recipes are welcome!!

  • It's awesome in cookies. You put it in a pan and cook on low heat stirring constantly until it looks like caramel. Then you sandwich two butter cookies with the caramel in the center and dust with confectioner sugar. They originated in South America and I can't remember what type of cookie you used. Look up condensed milk caramel and the recipe usually comes up.

  • Make frappuccinos!!!
Throw some ice in a blender; add 1/4 c of the sweetened condensed milk, add about 1/2 c of milk, a few T of instant coffee, and a bunch of chocolate syrup. Blend, pour in a glass, and put whipped cream on top.

  • Try this:

Or this, using JUST the canned milk:

There are a few other recipes on there that call for sweetened condensed milk, but those are the 2 that I have tried and can recommend.

  • You can also place the can in a pan, cover it with water and bring to a boil. Simmer for 3 hours then let cool in the pan. Open and you'll have caramel to use for dipping apple slices or for topping ice cream.

  • Sweetened condensed milk is different from evaporated milk, which also comes in a can. Evaporated milk can be used in soup recipes, for example, or for thickening cream sauces for vegetables, or for gravy. Sweetened condensed milk is for sweet stuff, like desserts. Unless you would put sugar in your creamed soup, sweetened condensed milk would not work. I am thinking that perhaps it could be blended into pudding, perhaps, or even how about a package of pudding, a package of whipped topping, and a can of sweetened condensed milk.... not sure.

  • If you put the cans in a pressure cooker for about 45 minutes, it'll turn into dulce de leche.. really dark, thick and delicious. Great on crepes with sliced bananas and strawberries. I also put it in rice pudding.
