What is a really good knife set?

My sister wants a good knife set 4 her birthday and I was wondering if anyone had any favorites? She has gone through lots of cheap knife sets from ikea, walmart, target and such, she wants something with professional quality, but I want something not more than 200, lol.

  • You can get decent 'sets' for that..but not GOOD sets. My new set of steak knives was 118 alone. I replaced my 6 inch and 10 inch Santoku knives and they were a little under 200 for both. Good knives are not cheap, they also last for years. I have one chefs knife that is over 20 years old and terrific. to this day.

  • go to www. They have beautiful knives && they are guaranteed to stay sharp for at least 10 yrs && when they do go dull, you just send them in to the comapany && they sharpen them for you. They also come with a "forever" guarantee. She will NEVER have to buy another knife again!! Seriously, I know a woman that has had her set for over 40yrs now && they still work just as good as the day she got them.

  • We buy our knives individually from professional chef stores.....the name of one such store is le Gourmet Chef. My BIL is a professional chef and recommended we buy knives this way because we complained about cheapo knives from Walmart and such places. They are more expensive but well worth it!
My 18 year old daughter is going to go to college to learn to become a professional chef when she graduates high school next year so we will be looking for a professional set to start her off with as a graduating gift.
