  • o worked a Dillards YEARS ago
and when the big wig was coming
our boss had us take everything in the back room, at least 500 pieces of clothes
    and shread them!
i aske difrst if we could donate, i was told that no because people try to bring them back for %
i asked if we could cut off the tags and then when people brought them back we would know and the answer was still no
so i asked if we could find a way to donate to another country, and i added if these people can travel across 5 or 6 countries, cross the border, find our store to return the clothes then they should get a refund
    the manager said no

so we shreaded a whole room full of perfectly good clothes, so the storeroom looked good for a big wig that saw it for 30 seconds

    what a waste=America the wasteful

  • why would someone who is higher up in the company want you to shred clothes? thats a waste of money.
i worked for disney, if it was broken and still useable, we donated to a charity (tore off tags and wrote on it w/perm marker that it was a donation, this is what MOST major retailers do). otherwise if it was marked down often enough and still didn't sell, it got sent to an outlet, if the outlets couldn't sell it after a certain period of time, it was written off and donated.

  • they go to other markdown stores. depends on the labels, if high end labels then they are sold to Ross or TJ Max who sells designer stuff at cheap prices. or they put them on clearance in the store they are already in! other than that, I do not know!

  • If they don't sell in the regular retail stores they send them to their outlets and then after that - TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Ross, Ruggid Ware and the like.

  • i worked at marshalls and ross, and the clothes came from other department stores and botiques. and the things that marshalls couldnt sell went in the trash compactor after being on clearance for a very long time and one time they donated everything they were supposed to throw out to the hurricane katrina victims.

  • They clearance off whatever they can... then they do an RTV which means return to vendor. after that the vendor sells their clothes to t.j. max, Ross...etc.

At least that's how Macy's does it.
with their perfume they make Loss Prevention take all of the bottles that don't sell and break them in the stockroom.. I always hated those days because it would smell like a french whore in the back and I would think to myself "that's a 200 dollar bottle of Versace!!!"
    what a waste
