Where can you get boxes for moving?

We're moving in a month and wondering where we can get free or cheap boxes to pack.

Thanks.

  • Go to grocery stores, furniture stores, etc., and ask them if you can have any extra boxes. Most will happily allow you to take them off their hands! :o) You can buy inexpensive rolls of mailing tape at office supplies sotres--or just fold the boxes so you don't need tape.

  • liquor stores smaller than most, but VERY strong, since they have to hold heavy bottles, these are good for your heavy things and makes it easier to carry, can put heavy things in, call ahead to grocery stores, they may save for you or have days when more stock comes in friends/neighbors that may have some in basement from their last move and have not gotten to break them down yet

  • Starbucks! Especially those for syrup bottles-- great for glasses and other delicates. Same with liquor stores, grocery stores, etc. If you need other packing supplies like bubble wrap, Costco has a moving package that's not too expensive that includes the saran to wrap around drawers, and other moving gear.

  • I got all my moving boxes from the pet food store. Pet food stores and grocery stores discard all their boxes after they stock the shelves about twice a week. They don't mind if you take the boxes from the back of the store that are just there waiting to be picked up by the recycling company.

  • I always went to Walmart late at night or first thing in the morning. They do their stocking over night ....they've let me leave with carts full of boxes!

  • Autozone and the musicians stores for us. Amps come in double boxes, so every box is really 2! and battery boxes are great for kitchen glasses just big enough to pack 6 or 8 comfortably without breaking and they are sturdy.
