What is admissable as proof in a divorce case that is on the grounds of domestic violence/mental cruelty?

What do courts allow as "proof" of domestic violence if you are filing for divorce on the grounds of mental cruelty?

    I got lucky and in my state I can record all conversations on my nifty recording device and I do not have to tell him what I have done.

    As far as the domestic violence. You need to call the cops every single time it happens. As sad as it is if you can't get that paper trial started it can be a pain.
