when in your opinion, does a baby become a toddler?

some say 12 months, some say when they begin walking, some say when they begin talking.... what are your thoughts?

  • I dont define it. Its different for everyone. My son is 3 and I consider him a toddler and not a preschooler because hes a bit immature. All my kids are my babies.

  • I think a year.... or when they start really walking! mine started walking at 10 mos and was still a baby! I also feel they become a "real" toddler at about 18 mos!!! The whole digging everything out of the cupboards, constantly making messes, being mobile.. each baby hits toddlerhood at different stages! I considered mine a toddler at a year, but I think about 18 mos she actually developed completely into a toddler!!!

  • I go by progress and attitude. My daughter- i didn't consider her a toddler until she could walk, she was understanding well, could eat well on her own and was off the baby food/ soft table food (she didn't get her first teeth until 14 months)

  • Never. They will always be my babies! lol. But no, really, I finally relinquished the baby title for my oldest when he was about 18 months. Just a little before the new baby was born I suppose.

  • I saw walking because the image of "toddling" is that of them wobbling around as they learn to walk. :) At my day care they go to the "wobblers" class around 12 months then "toddlers" class around 18 months.
