After giving birth, did you change into your own PJ's for the rest of your hospital stay?

(obviously doesn't apply to homebirthers since they weren't at a hospital)

Would you recommend it? I just felt so dumpy last time staying in the hospital gown, but everyone told me that I'd just get blood all over my own pajamas, but I'm thinking it might be worth the risk to help my self esteem.

  • I changed into my own comfy sweats. I hate hospital gowns! Just prepare for them to get stained, so make sure they're not your absolute favorite ones or anything! I didn't stain any of my clothes (but I was prepared to), so you might not either.
Either that, or you can just bring your favorite robe to put on over your hospital gown.

  • I had bought some feminine nightgowns made for nursing. They lifted my spirits and helped me feel feminine again. And they were nice for nursing.

  • I wore a pair on Hanes Organic Cotton sleep pants (reg price $8, $6 on sale) and a t shirt ($6). Not a big expense. I was comfortable and happy to not be in the damn gown.

Bring your own pads....they work better than the hospital ones. Get a longer pad than you normally would. Bring real panties too. Those net ones are an accident waiting to happen. You won't get much on your clothes this way, and if you rinse out the stain while it's fresh you can pretty much save the pajamas from being destroyed.

  • Oh heck no! I bleed all over and went through those gowns like candy! I didn't care what I wore, but I did bring fuzzy sucks to wear since my feet were cold. I got up and walked around a lot and keep moving. That's what made me feel the best was getting out of bed.

  • I wore my pajamas with some granny panties and heavy duty nighttime pads. I didn't have any trouble bleeding through.

  • With all 3 of my boys I brought my own gowns to wear, socks for my feet, 'granny undies' and my own overnight maxi pads. The hospital also had some huge maxi pads but I really did not like them they were too wide.
As for blood-- if you do get some on your clothes peroxide will take it out.

  • I brought my own gowns to wear and did with my first 3, but had too many complications with my last one to care what i was wearing. I looked like death in all my pictures and i don't really think a change of clothes would have helped! But whatever makes you feel better is what you should do.
