  • My 5 year old doesn't nap. If he were to fall asleep though, I'd probably only let him sleep for an hour or so.

  • Oh wow. My oldest son took naps until pre K. Even without them he seemed to do just fine. The youngest stopped napping at around 2. If we forced him to nap he'd sleep between 1-3 hours and be up that much longer at night. When we broke him of napping so he'd sleep at night the daycare forced him to nap. When he'd get home he was a terror. It just depends on the child. Each are different.

  • If you going to be babysitting him I would ask his parents how long he naps. I know a lot of five year olds that don't.

  • Why are you asking us? Ask the kid's parents.

I, personally, didn't know that 5 year olds still napped.

  • My 6yo usually takes 1-2 hour naps when she does and she napped almost every day until she started kindergarten at almost 6 years old and is now almost 7 and still takes several naps a week. She used to just go get in bed when she was tired without anyone telling her.

  • A 5 year old should not be napping in my opinion. My oldest stopped napping at 2 and a half.

  • just to clear up some thoughts on here...I did ask his mom and she said that he does take a nap at home or when he was in daycare. So i am not doing it just because. Thank you for replying everyone

  • Ask the parent of the child. My daughter is 7yrs old and she hasn't taken a nap since she has been like 2yrs old.

  • My son stopped naps around 2 1/2 but most daycare or pre-K around here still have nap time for an hour. Even if they don't fall asleep, they lay quietly for an hour. GL
