  • Anything that causes personal pleasure is a sin. Can't have people making themselves orgasm or the world will end...

The Bible doesn't specifically address masturbation as being a sin or not being a sin. The act itself is not sinful but aspects that it may entail may cause you to sin. Many people need to think lustful thoughts or look at unwholesome images in order to facilitate pleasuring themselves. Lust is definitely a sin. The Bible tells us that lusting after people in our thoughts, who are not our spouses, is a sin. If you can masturbate without having sinful thoughts, there's really nothing wrong with it.

  • It doesn't say anything about masturbation. Typically Christians who oppose it do so on the grounds that it is lust.

  • some say the story of Onan can be relative to masturbation because of the seed spillage. basically saying the spilling of seed on soil is wasted when God created it for procreation and punishable be the death penalty. WOW. and i thought going blind would be punishment enough.

  • ANd, if you want to, you can take anything in the Bible and interpret it any way you want to. If you want to think masturbation is a sin, go for it. But it is a natural thing , people do have urges, it is healthy, and prevents early, meaningless sexual relationships. I bet pregnant teens wish they had just masturbated instead of having sex and getting pregnant and ruining their future.

I think this opinion is why certain churches frown on birth control and condoms.

But the reason Onan was punished for that was because he was supposed to get that girl pregnant, so his brother would have an heir, but he didn't want to do that so that he would become the heir. He was stealing the inheritance from his brothers family.

I agree with NL. The Bible says that we are to be sexually moral in our thought life. Jesus talked about lusting too, even looking at a woman and lusting after her is wrong if you don't masterbate. It is a matter of the heart, not the hand.
