6 year old constantly eatting... (repost)

my 6 year old little cousin is ALWAYS EATTING!! it would be ok to me if he was eatting real food but all he wants is cakes and cookies and ice pops!!... he was promised by his father some doughnuts so in the morning he took him to get doughnuts. there was 12 in the box and needless to say, i didnt even get one. he ate almost all of them. yesterday we went to our grandmother's house because she cooked sunday dinner. he didnt eat the food (the real food) but he had cookies and milk after. and was begging for someone to go to mcdonalds or to have chinese food. i also brought a box of freezer pops yesterday and ive only had one. needless to say, they are almost gone too because of him. how do i get him to STOP EATTING SO MUCH?!?!

  • He is 6, set the rules not treats until after he has eaten real food, as for at home, if you dont buy it, he cant eat it. He will get mad and refuse to eat but he will get hungry and eat. If you want to help him, dont give in. This is setting him up for a life of unhealthy eating.

  • I agree with pp. He might be bored, too. Take him to the park, food-free. Get him interested in things that don't facilitate eating while you do it. Cut his tv & video-game time if he has it. If his father promises doughnuts, he can have 1 doughnut. Don't even bring any more home. If he doesn't eat real food, he doesn't get junk food. When he gets rewards, make them non-food rewards. Talk about how it's important to be healthy and what we need to do to be healthy. Talk about how his body works better when it's supplied with the right kinds of foods.
