what can i use to clean my carpets?

my carpets always have a musty smell to them. is there anything thing i can make at home to clean them with, i have a steam cleaner. thanks

  • Well the best thing I can think without knowing your carpet cleaner type is clean it first with the carpet solution and then go over it again (after it is somewhat dired as to not soak the carpets too much) with just water and get the extra soap out.Make sure you go slowly and pull as much water out as you can. Then put some fans out and let the carpet dry completely. Then after its fully dried sprinkle baking soda all over the carpet leave it for a couple hours then vaccum it all up. If the musty smell is mold/or mildow thou you can try sprinkling with borax. However if it is not caught early unfortunatly you will have to replace the carpets and the pad underneath for health reasons.

  • anything with sodium laurel sulfate will combat mildew/mold and keep it away for a while. Just make sure you dry the carpets with fans.
