For those who have taken or will take a vacation this year

This is just totally out of curiosity....how will you pay for it? Are you rich? Using a credit card for the whole thing? Saved up? Funded by rich relatives? This is just a way for me to get some info for an essay I am writing for school....absolutely NO bashing....noone will be judged.

  • We save. Whatever is left on the account will go into savings and that's the money we will use for our vacation!

  • Hubby & I went up to Oregon with our 2 month old daughter (14 hour drive, something I would NOT recommend lol). His mom payed for gas, we stayed there with her. It was a relatively inexpensive trip, until we had to come back home and the air compressor on our car crapped out and caused the steering belt to snap...$1500 in repairs which my parents paid for (we're paying them back lol)

  • We went to Florida for my sil's wedding. Dh's parents paid for it. We stayed at a beach house for a week. We paid for some of the food, we cooked all week to save money. We would not have been able to go unless they paid our way. We stayed close to the beach, so that was our main entertainment.

  • We are saving, and we split rental fees with another couple, so that keeps costs down a little.

  • No, we aren't rich. We plan way in advance, usually a year in advance and then we save for it. Most of our vacations, we share with another family. This way we can share the expenses and take turns babysitting, lol. We have had some really nice vacations that we have paid very little for. Also we always get condo's with full kitchens. We might eat out once while on vacation and prepare meals in the condo the rest of the time. You would be surprised at how little you can pay for a condo if you look outside the box. We were in Myrtle Beach, there were condo's a couple miles away from the beach for $219/week. So you couldn't just walk right out onto the beach, but you still got to go to the beach within a couple of minutes.

  • We save for the year. We have gone on vacations in the past on credit cards but we decided we are not using credit cards any longer. We also have a timeshare so when we go we don't pay for the cost of a hotel or condo. This year we went to Myrtle Beach, we drove which was cheaper than flying for all 5 of us and we cooked at our condo for breakfast and lunch. I am still on vacation so I like to eat out at least one meal a day.

  • some might think that we are rich but we just budget well. We took our family of 7 to France for 3 weeks. Spent another week in Sun Valley Idaho. We are leaving next week to go to the coast of Washington and Oregon and our older children spent 2 weeks in China on a humantarian trip this summer. We are looking at spending a long weekend in Yellowstone over fall break from school and we will be spending a week in Southern California in the spring

we do pay for things like airline tickets and condos with creditcards but pay them off right away. If we dont have the money in the account we dont travel or we go somewhere more local

  • We go to the beach every october. We spend about $1000 and we save it in cash every year. No we arent rich, because if we were, we would go during the summer like every one else and we would go to the carribean. We have only a little bit of money so we end up in Panama city beach, Fl..LOL.
